Aptis Grammar and Vocabulary Practice Test
The grammar and vocabulary component is the first thing you sit in the Aptis exam and the one that decides which level the rest of the test starts from. Each Aptis grammar practice test here gives you 25 grammar questions and 25 vocabulary items in 25 minutes — the same volume and the same clock as the real thing — and every grammar answer comes with an explanation of why it is right.

Start Grammar TestWhat the Aptis grammar and vocabulary test looks like
Two halves that are graded together but tested very differently:
| Section | What you get | What is being tested | Items |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grammar | A sentence with a gap and three options | Tenses, relative clauses, conditionals, connectors, passive, reported speech, modals | 25 |
| Vocabulary | Five sets of words to match, with extra words you will not use | Collocations, synonyms and word pairs that native speakers use together | 25 |
The whole component runs on a single 25-minute timer, so you have roughly 30 seconds per item. That pace is the real difficulty: almost nobody fails this section because a structure is too advanced, they fail it because they spent three minutes on question 7. The other four components, with the same timers, are on Aptis Examen.
Where points are actually lost
- The vocabulary half is not about knowing more words. It is about knowing which words go together: competitive salary, annual turnover, target audience. Studying isolated word lists does almost nothing for it; studying collocations does.
- Answer, flag, move on. If an item takes more than 40 seconds, choose the option that sounds least wrong and come back. An unanswered question is worth zero; a guess between three options is worth a third of a point on average.
- Read the whole sentence before the gap. Many grammar items are decided by a word at the very end — a time expression, a comma before a relative pronoun — not by what surrounds the gap.
- Read the explanations, not just the score. Every grammar item explains why the right option is right. Getting 40/50 twice teaches you nothing; understanding the ten you missed does.
- Repeat a test a week later, not the same day. Same-day repeats measure your memory of the answers, not your grammar.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the Aptis grammar and vocabulary test?
25 minutes for 50 items: 25 grammar questions and 25 vocabulary items. There is a single timer for the whole component, so managing the clock matters as much as knowing the answers.
What grammar comes up in the Aptis exam?
Tenses (especially present perfect and narrative tenses), conditionals, relative clauses, connectors and contrast linkers, the passive, reported speech and modal verbs. The range runs from A2 to C1, and the questions get harder as the test progresses.
Do I get to see why my answer was wrong?
Yes. Every grammar item in these Aptis grammar practice tests includes an explanation of the correct option, so the review after the test is where most of the learning happens.
¿Cómo se puntúa esta parte del examen?
Aquí verás tu porcentaje de aciertos y un nivel orientativo (de principiante a C). En el examen oficial esta sección sirve además para calibrar la dificultad del resto de la prueba, por eso conviene no dejar preguntas en blanco.
