Aptis Reading Practice Test
Reading is the part of the Aptis exam where speed decides the grade. Each Aptis reading practice test on this page gives you the four parts of the real paper on a single 35-minute timer, and shows you the correct answers as soon as you finish. There are 10 tests and they are free.

The four parts get progressively harder, exactly as in the exam: the last two are where B2 and C1 candidates separate from the rest.

Start Reading TestWhat the Aptis reading test looks like
| Part | The task | What it really tests |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1 | A short text with six gaps and a set of words to choose from | Vocabulary in context and collocation, not comprehension |
| Part 2 | Six sentences from a story to put in order; the first one is given | Cohesion: pronouns, time markers and connectors that chain sentences |
| Part 3 | Four people give their opinion on a topic; seven questions ask who said what | Distinguishing similar positions that differ in one nuance |
| Part 4 | Five paragraphs and eight headings, three of which you will not use | Identifying the main idea of a paragraph, ignoring its details |
Reading is only one of the five components, and the tasks in the others look nothing like these. Each of them has its own free Aptis practice tests.
How to gain marks in Aptis reading
- Part 2 is solved backwards. Do not look for the story, look for the glue: a Consequently, a she with no name before it, a date. Each of those forces one sentence to follow another, and three forced pairs give you the whole order.
- In Part 3, read the four opinions first and label each one with a single word (for, against, cautious, indifferent). The questions then take seconds, because most of them ask about the position and not about the details.
- In Part 4, the heading matches the paragraph's main idea, not the most striking word in it. The distractor headings are always built from a detail that genuinely appears in the text.
- Budget the time before you start: Part 1 in under five minutes, Part 2 in five, and leave the rest for Parts 3 and 4. Most people run out of time because they polished Part 1.
- Never leave a gap empty. There is no penalty for a wrong answer in the Aptis reading test, so an eliminated guess is always better than a blank.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many parts does the Aptis reading test have?
Four. A gap-fill text, a sentence-ordering task, an opinion-matching task with four people and seven questions, and a heading-matching task with five paragraphs and eight headings.
Do these Aptis reading practice tests come with answers?
Yes. When you finish a test you see which answers were right and wrong, part by part, so you can go back to the text and work out why you missed each one.
How long does the Aptis reading test take?
These tests run on a 35-minute timer for all four parts. Splitting that budget in advance matters more than reading faster: the last two parts carry the harder questions.
