The Psychology of Habits

Habits are the invisible architecture of everyday life, and a significant of what we do daily is not a decision but a habit. Understanding how habits work is to making positive changes. All habits proceed through a loop: cue, routine, and reward. To a bad habit, one must identify the cue and change the routine while keeping the reward the same. Research suggests that it takes 66 days to form a new habit, contrary to the popular belief of 21 days. Consistency is than intensity; missing one day is not fatal, but giving up is. Ultimately, habits our character.
